Take this to be a story more than a guideline. Your journey to dual citizenship may be (or may need to be) completely different than the path I took. This guideline is not legal advice, of course, but I am sharing it because I wish I had a more clear-cut explanation of how others did things instead of finding pieces scattered across the internet.
Each section will show at the top the last time it was updated. I have now completed the process and finally got my Italian passport. It was a heck of a ride! I will continue to add info to these sections as time goes by. I'm still interested on how the process works for others as well.

Here's an example of the email you'll receive when your Italian citizenship is recognized. I went through the process through the Los Angeles Italian Consulate and was recognized August of 2023.
